Nice read! Hopefully he can come back strong next season and be moved at the deadline for a defender or solidify a top 6 spot.

Ennis, to me, is one of those "no man's land" types of players. He's definitely talented enough to play in this league, but if you're a team that relies on his production, you're not very good. If you're a contender, you most likely already have at least 2 or 3 players that do what he does, only better.

if he can have a chris kunitz-type career, i'd be happy with that...and I believe he's capable of approaching that level

I want to see Tyler come back and be successful here. I know he can do it. It's just a matter of getting his confidence back on the ice and keeping his head on a swivel out there. The guy can score 20 goals a season and that's nothing to throw away. If fully healthy and getting acclimated to Bylsma's system, He could be a 30 goal scorer, especially being a top 6 forward on this team.

He could end up being the winger Jack needs. I dunno. If we added a winger and had Ennis producing , we will be better off. If he is still here next season I think we will see a way better Ennis.

From the last blog:

Mike Weber played 10 minutes of ice time in a single game over the entire series. We'll attribute their loss in that game entirely to Weber.

Your post is still Grade-A whipping boy material.

It's not just his play. It's the fact that they had a need and trading for a guy who is essentially a liability is all they did to address it. With or without Weber, their defense corps is where that series was lost. They were outmatched.

Every time I try to build a lineup I can never place, Moulson, Gionta or Ennis.

I just cant fit them anywhere.

major snafu by weber, but you can't blame him for their ineptitude early in the series or how they came out lame in a do-or-die game-6...

and I agree, that defense was way overamatched, but then again, Pittsburgh's gonna give every team's d a hard time

Washington's forward group had every bit as much fire power as Pittsburgh's did. Pittsburgh's D Corps handled it well enough. Again, the Penguins went out and got Trevor Dailey. Washington went out and got Mike Weber. It shouldn't be a shock who won this series. Had Pittsburgh stood pat, or only acquired Justin Schultz, we might be having the same conversation about them.

The D corps is made up of 7 guys, and Weber played the least of any of them. To label the problem with his name is first rate scapegoat, grade-A whipping boy.

Find me the better D-Man available at this years TDL that the Caps could acquire. There's a huge pile of mediocrity in there.

Scuderi, as miserable a season as he's had, and Ehrhoff would have been upgrades. And that's without blinking.

And Washington even went out and got Weber before that trade happened.

so why make it sound as if he's one of the main reasons the caps lost the series?...

fact is, the caps had the second best goals-against in the entire league and scored the second-most goals during the regular season...how much should they have changed? not to mention that they had minimal capspace to work with...

they ran into two things this post season--a history with ovechkin of playoff underachievement and a buzz-saw in the Pittsburgh penguins, the hottest team in the league

and neither had anything to do with mike weber

What does "available" mean though? Pending UFAs? 1 year rentals? Real hockey trades? Th bottom 50% of the league is probably readily available. For the right price.

So did anyone else watching the game last night get the sense that the Caps didn't give a poop about the fact that it was an elimination game until about 1/2 way through the second period??

This team just didn't seem to adjust...i mean how man games did it take before Trotz put Kuznetzov on the top line. Atleast that was a change.

And for god sakes Ovi if u draw 3 out of the 4 PKers to you when you have the puck just pass to one of the other ultra talented skaters on the ice...they are gonna be open (see Carlson's goal to tie it up)...I know I had a similar post last night but i'm still blown away how lackadaisically this Caps team approached the playoffs

Probably. Just so happens Ennis' contract is up around then. So barring trades or high quality FA signings, there's your answer.

And given Washington's record at the TDL how much do you want to give away for a 7th D? What kind of marginal upgrade are you really gonna make with the bottom 50% of the league?

We're quibbling over loose change here. It's a stupid hypothesis, without any causal relationship whatsoever.

The Caps lost the series because - over the course of 6 games - their forwards were unable to score against a pistol hot 22 year old goalie and the Pens were able to score against the rightful Vezina winner. The outcome was not driven by Mike Weber's 10 minutes. The Caps just got beat.
